Project Overview

Tasked with transforming the vibrant, island-themed Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville into the soulful, refined B.B. King’s Blues Club, this project was a testament to the power of architectural adaptation. The challenge was not only to redefine the venue’s identity but also to enhance its functionality while preserving its historic character.

The $2 million renovation and expansion added approximately 2,000 square feet, improving guest flow and maximizing space efficiency. Key design interventions included:

  • Reconfigured floor plan to accommodate 400+ guests

  • New VIP lounge – The Lucille Lounge – an elevated dining and entertainment experience

  • More bars & service areas to streamline operations

  • A grand entry stair & increased glazing for an open, inviting atmosphere

  • Relocated stage & improved sightlines for a seamless audience experience

The design team opened up the venue, replacing walls and an elevator to create a more immersive connection between the music and the street. The once-closed Decatur Street doors were transformed into open portals, inviting the sounds of the French Quarter to spill into the city.

The renovation was both an aesthetic and commercial success, with the venue tripling its business post-completion. Featuring artwork by local artists and a menu curated by renowned Chef Greg Sonnier, the revitalized B.B. King’s Blues Club now embodies a sophisticated yet authentic New Orleans blues experience.
